Google Algorithms

Google updates or Google algorithm is a criterion used by the Google to rank a particular website. Along with page ranking it is an important part of Google which evaluates the importance of a website because of its popularity. In Google Algorithm, google uses various updates to make a website more relevant and without any spam. For example, If any particular website have identical number of words in a page, the SEO (search engine optimization) specialist might did not notice it but the google spider that crawls the website would be. When Google saw that there is a number of keyword stuffing in the website content, the google may reduce the page rank of the website on SERP.  
Over the past few years, Google has changed many algorithms related to SEO. These algorithms had many names and different versions like Boston, Cassandra, Dominic, Fritz, Florida, Bourbon etc. There are also some familiar names like Panda (2011), Penguin (2012), Humming Bird (2013) etc. Which was the major changes in Google Algorithm to give better results for users.

There are many versions of updates/algorithms in Google but the most common and important are:

PANDA

Google panda is google algorithm launched in February 24, 2011 by Google to allocate a website content’s quality and down rank the sites which have spammy and low-quality content. In the early days, Panda is not a part of Google algorithm but it incorporated officially in January 2016 into PR algorithm.


PENGUIN



Google Penguin is an algorithm launched by Google in April 24, 2012. The main aim of Penguin is to identify the websites which have unnatural and irrelevant backlinks that spam the result page by manipulate links. Then downrank the websites that has spammy and irrelevant links.


HUMMINGBIRD
Google Hummingbird is one of the major algorithms launched in August 22, 2013, for the purpose of de rank the websites that have low quality content and more keyword stuffing.
Hummingbird helps Google to interpret better searches and provide best results for the searcher. While keywords would be important, hummingbird makes possible to rank a website if it doesn’t contain the keyword that a searcher entered on Google.

PIGEON
Google Pigeon is another part of Google Algorithm launched in July 24, 2014. Its main motive is to alter the results in which location of the searcher plays an important part. In google pigeon, there is a closer tie up between local and core algorithm, means that the local factors are used to rank the webpage locally.


MOBILE FRIENDLY


Google Mobile Friendly Update is a google update launched in April 21, 2015 to ensure that the mobile friendly optimised webpages should be rank top in mobile searches and the webpages which are not mobile friendly should be down rank. Desktop searches are not affected by the mobile friendly update. It means that one’s page should be mobile friendly to be ranked up, unless the rest of all might be fail to rank.



RANKBRAIN


Google Rankbrain is a part of Google Algorithm launched in October 26, 2016 as a machine learning system that helps to understand the objective behind questions and gives best search results in response to those questions. It is the third most important factor to rank a website. In other words, Rankbrain is a helpful and important feature of Google algorithm which helps Google to identify the relevant meanings according to the queries and arrange the results on SERP’s.


POSSUM


Possum is a Google algorithm launched by Google in September 1, 2016. The main aspect of this update is to ensure that the search results may vary according to the location of the searcher. In this algorithm, the closer you are to a certain business enterprise, the more likely you see its related results. Overall, in Possum the results will show according to the search location of the user. Although, Possum is becoming an important part of the Businesses located outside the city area.


FRED


Google Fred is a Google update launched in March 8, 2017. It is an algorithm that targets heavy ad-centered websites and d rank them for violating terms and conditions of Google Webmaster. For many websites, their main aim is to generate ad revenue with heavy-affiliate and thin content. So, the main work of this algorithm is to rank down those websites that contains thin, low quality content and mostly created to generate revenue through advertisements.
